Organization of actors - Photos.

Above are some more images I have taken. My first set of original photography consisted of images of my two characters in some and in others images of woodland. After taking my first images, I was quite happy with the outcome but felt I should try taking some images of my third character, the crazy woman. I asked my sister to be the model for the images and used make up to make her look crazy and as if she had been dragged through mud. I used a dressing gown we had to look like a hospital gown/ restraint to indicate where she had escaped from. I back combed her hair also to add to the look and in some of the images, I added in plastic leaves in her hair also.

Drafting and Planning - Poster Draft - Different Fonts

Above are three screenshots taken off paint.net of some of the development of my possible poster idea. This image was one of the ones that stood out to me out of all the ones I had previously taken. So using this image, I put it into paint.net and added a effect and played around with the saturation and contrast to get the effect shown above. The reason I thought this effect worked well was because I felt it added shade and darkened the shadows making it appear scarier and as it someone is hiding within the forest. I then added text to my poster, and in doing this I tried out some different fonts in order to see which works more successfully. In the first screenshot, the font is simple. I felt using this could be a good idea in a way of making the image the vocal point. The second and third screenshot fonts are a bit more quirkier as they are 'messy'. I preferred the third font to the second, I felt it looked creepy and related to the horror genre more. I also tried including different aspect in each such as a critic comment in the first, production credits at the bottom in the second and celebrity names in the third. When I presented these three options to my class, they all commented that the simple text was more effective and that the other font types didn't look as good as they didn't look very professional. Taking these comments on board, I will go back to my design with the simple font and develop it further.

Drafting and Planning - Poster first Draft comparison.

Above is a poster for the film, The Blair Witch Project. The film is about a group of young adults who go into this forest where a supposed witch lives, so they go to find her. As the film goes on, its reveals the witch is real as one by one the characters go missing. When I first saw this poster, I thought that it was pretty simple and thought maybe too simple. But the more I looked at it, the more I thought how sinister it looked. I think the edit makes the image really sinister with the shadows in between the trees signifying that perhaps they wont find their way out or that something or someone could be watching them without them knowing. I had already collected the photos that I wanted to use for my poster and felt that the image shown below could work well in creating a similar product. So using Paint.net, I changed the, brightness, saturation and added a few effects which created many dark shadows within the image. I thought that by doing this, It would portray the similar idea that something or someone was hiding in the woods. I kept the text simple so that the image was the main focus point. I like this poster idea but will try a few others with different photos I have taken to get a better idea.

Drafting and Planning - Poster Draft using Paint.net

Above is the image I used and put into Paint.net. In Paint.net, I was able to edit and adjust the image and as shown below, I put three different affects. The first shows a simple black and white edit. The second shows a simple sepia edit and the last shows a black noir edit. Out of the three, I think the one which works most effectively is the image with the black noir edit. I feel that it adds shadow and a sense of darkness to the image and think that I will take this image further and possibly use it in my ancillary products to support my teaser.

Original Magazine and Poster Images.

Above show several images which I have taken in the location of my local park. I chose to use this location as I wanted to include and a resemble a forest like location with the trees, woodland etc. I felt the location worked well, and I was able to get some good images that I could possibly use when making my magazine/ poster for my teaser trailer. I had both my characters in most of the shots, however I tried some other shots, including shots of just my female character. I did this because as my product was a teaser, I felt that I might not include the male to make the woman come across more vulnerable and weak.

Second photography Comparison

Image from The Blair Witch project;

My own image.

Above I have taken a still from the Blair Witch Project and then attempted to take a similar image with the female who is playing the female role in my trailer. I felt that image I had taken from the film The Blair Witch Project was very powerful in portraying the horror within the female and how scared she is. The image portrays her as weak and vulnerable as she films her last words. This relates to what I want to put across in my own trailer which is why i decided to try and replicate it.

Photography Comparison.

Photo from The Blair Witch Project.

Similar image.

Above there are two images. The image at the top is one taken in the film 'The Blair Witch Project'. Looking at this film has probably been one of the biggest influences on my own trailer and products. I found that one of the images I had taken was similar to an image of the location used in that film. The top image looks more sinister then my own as the lighting is different however I think the locations are similar and if I was to put an edit on top of my own, then the image could work just as effectively.

Editing For My Teaser Trailer.

Editing

In a previous post, I looked at what different types of editing there are; http://oliviaoconnell.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/blog-post_23.html

Some of these include;
- Slow Paced
- Two Shot
- Slow Motion
- Fast Paced Editing

From looking at previous teaser trailers, similar to the story line of which I want to go on for my own, they all use a similar edit throughout. This is the edit going from slow at the start to much quicker at the end.
The idea i have for the start of my trailer is for it too start slow showing the couple at their wedding, moving onto the honeymoon. I then want the mood to change at the point where the couple find out about the missing person around the area that they are in. From there i want to quicken the pace and shots to reveal some form of panic to the viewer.

Shot List.

Producing a shot list before making my trailer will be helpful as it will give me a starter point as to how I should angle my camera shots. Although, when making my trailer these shots may change. In the previous post, it shows the story board that I produced and from making this, I can now begin to plan/ look at my shot list which I will use as a guidance.

Below is my initial Shot List;

- Mid Shot -

The first shot I'm planning on using is a Mid shot. The shot will show my two characters from behind, dressed in wedding attire whilst chinking glasses. The idea of using a mid shot for this part of trailer is that it will be a clear indication that my two characters have just got married.

- Long Shot -

The next shot I plan to use is a Long Shot. This shot, I will use to show my two characters standing in some sort of forest location. I want the long shot to act as establishing to indicate to the viewer that this is perhaps the characters honeymoon.

- Close Up -

The next shot I will use is a Close up, I will use the close up to focus on a prop that I will include. The prop I want to use is of a smart phone on a news app. The reason why I will use a close up is so that the viewer can clearly see what is on the screen being the report of the missing crazy person, instead of the character actually saying it. I think this will signify more of an importance of what is on it and that its potential danger for the character.

- Long Shot -

The next shot I will use is a long shot of a tent situated in amongst the trees. This will be a shot made for the sound as I want to use the sounds of branches snapping under someone's feet and the characters confused, wondering who it is.

- Medium Shot -

The next I want to use is medium shot. I will use this shot to show the tip of a torch being lighted, pointed towards the woods. The light of the torch will then point directly to a figure standing with there back towards them. The characters will then figure out that it is the crazy missing person they seen on their phone earlier in the day. I then want the figure to turn round and start running at the camera which is what leads to the next shot...

- *Blank* -

The last shot I want to use is a black, black screen with just the sounds of the characters running, screaming and rustles. I think this will be quite effective because I think the idea of darkness is the reality of the unknown.

Template Layout for magazine cover.

Again, above I have produced a template for what will be my magazine advertising and exclusively presenting my teaser trailer. The idea is that an  image and some text surrounding my teaser trailer will go in the middle as this is what I want the reader to be most attracted too. I will then place some Puffs and pugs around advertising free-bies etc. I will also include several magazine conventions such as a barcode, price, tagline etc to make my magazine as realistic as possible. Again, although this template will be the basis of my design, it may change during production.

Template Layout for my Film poster.

Above I have produced a template for the preparation of my film poster. I have gone for a generic style with the text at the top and bottom with the image in the middle as the main, focus point. Although this is my template, my design may change during production but i will used this as a starting point and go from here.

Production Credits.

Production credits are used mainly at the beginning of films or right at the end, to represent the company that has produced the film. I will do some research into current productions as I think that if I include my own production company it will make my teaser trailer feel more authentic and realistic.

Universal Studios Inc. (also known as Universal Pictures), is an American motion picture studio. Its one of the six major movie studios. Its production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York City. Universal Studios is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (also known as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer PicturesMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer, or simply MGM), is an American media company, involved primarily in the production and distribution of films and television programs. Once the largest and most glamorous of film studios.

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (DWA) is an American animation studio based in California that creates animated feature films, television programs, and online virtual worlds. They have released a total of twenty-eight feature films, including the franchises of Shrek ,MadagascarKung Fu PandaMonsters vs. Aliens, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Paramount Pictures Corporation (commonly known as Paramount Pictures or simply Paramount) is a film and television production/distribution studio, consistently ranked as one of the largest (top-grossing) film studios.

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation (Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation, with hyphen, from 1935 to 1985)—also known as 20th Century Fox20th Century Fox Pictures, or simply Fox, is one of the six major American film studios as of 2011.

From my research into Production Distributors, I have decided to go with 'Universal' as the on I will include in my teaser trailer. I feel that it relates more to mine and goes with with the audience best that I am trying to reach out too. I feel that also Universal attracts a mass audience rather then a Niche such as Dream works attracts a younger target audience as they produce animations so this would be a unsuitable choice for my own.

Sounds for my teaser trailer.

I'm planning on using a site called free sound (link; http://www.freesound.org/ ) to gather different sounds to use in my teaser trailer. From my research and planning, I have seen many sounds reoccurring in numerous trailers, such as;

- Heavy Breathing
http://freesound.org/people/boziav/sounds/73145/

- Banging
http://freesound.org/people/qubodup/sounds/157609/

 - Slamming
http://freesound.org/people/primeval_polypod/sounds/160612/

- Screaming
http://freesound.org/people/sironboy/sounds/132106/

Scratches
http://freesound.org/people/mzoern1/sounds/118221/

- Horror theme noises - Gun shots, axes etc...
Gun- http://freesound.org/people/Noah_Fletcher/sounds/200245/
Axe- http://freesound.org/people/bigbadbrad/sounds/141453/

- Footsteps/ Running
Running- http://freesound.org/people/stintx/sounds/107624/
Walking- http://freesound.org/people/Leafs67/sounds/155589/

- Smashes
http://freesound.org/people/stickman/sounds/39297/

I think in order to make my trailer successful, I will need to include some of these sounds. I'm thinking of including other non diegetic sounds such as the sound of glasses 'chinging' and diegetic sounds such as ery winds.

Organisation of Location - photos

Above are some images I took of my location for the filming of my trailer. I took several different photos from different angles to get as many different looks to work with when and if it came to using them for the images on my poster/ magazine.
