Making of my Teaser Trailer - MoviePlus X6 - Universal

I decided to go for Universal as the film idents for my teaser trailer. I decided to use Universal as I think as its a more known/ popular brand, I feel it will ensure my teaser trailer reaches out to a mass audience rather then a niche one.

Making of my Teaser Trailer - MoviePlus X6 - MPAA

Above I have showed the restriction I have used on my trailer. I have inserted this at the very beginning of my trailer to be informative to the viewer so they are aware of the restriction put in place. I have only placed it at the beginning for under 20 seconds, I put it up for just enough to understand what it is without it being on there too long.

Further Poster Development - Coming Soon - Celeb Names.

Above is a possible idea/ development of a poster design to promote my film trailer. In this poster attempt i tried using an image of the crazy person who plays the bad guy in my film trailer. I thought the image worked well and the character looks stressed, crazed/ disorientated. Before I put the effect onto the image, I don't think it was as effective as when I added it.  I added the effect using Paint.net and also used this software to add in and test different text types and fonts.
Looking at this attempt of the poster, I don't think it would work successfully and don't think I'll be taking this idea any further. In my trailer, I have decided to keep my villain out as a way to intrigue the viewer to question what is hunting the young couple, so I think including the poster with an image of her will not make sense.

Further Poster Development - With different font Titles.

Above is a few samples of working with different fonts using Paint.net. I went through a range of different fonts in order to find the perfect one which I felt went and complemented my genre. None of the above did this for me and I wont be using any of these font types but I felt it was necessary to try them first but the outcome wasn't successful. I felt the fonts didn't look professional nor realistic and felt that if I did use them, then my poster would look amateur-ish.

Further Poster Development.

These screenshots show two different effects taken from Paint.net and applied to my image. Out of all the effects, these were the two that I felt portrayed the horror genre best and made the image more sinister then it was without them. I felt the effect on the bottom image worked better then the one on the top as the above effect makes it look ghost related which is not what I wanted to portray as the character is alive and is not haunting them but hunting them. This is why I feel the effect on the bottom image works better.

Drafting and Planning - Teaser Trailer Clip - Talking, Screaming + Running.

This is another clip, showing my couple talking for longer leading to my female character running and screaming about something. After filming my clips, I had the idea to just maybe include my female character throughout my trailer. I wanted it to appear as though the male was taken and the female was left alone, weak and vulnerable. I want to work on portraying this through movie maker and see how I can make that work.

Drafting and Planning - Teaser Trailer Clip - Couple talking

This clip shows my two characters kissing and some speech. In my trailer, I want to keep speech quite minimum as I think that will make it more sinister. However, I thought I would try out filming some clips of them talking, just to see if it could work well also.

Drafting and Planning - Teaser Trailer Clip - Girl screaming x2

Like the previous clip of my sister screaming, this is similar, however this scream I think is more terrifying than the previous one. I think that I could use this is my trailer and it would work quite successfully.

Drafting and planning - Teaser Trailer Clip- Girl Crying

Similarly to the previous clip, I liked this clip for the sound of my female crying. Again I thought that I could take this sound out and add it into my trailer somewhere. This clip isn't completely irrelevant though as I could possibly cut it and put her facial expression during the clip somewhere in my trailer.

Drafting and planning - Teaser Trailer Clip - Girl Scream

The main purpose for this clip is the girl scream in it. I felt the scream was quite horrifying and felt that in the movie making software, I could take the scream away from the clip and possibly add it somewhere in my trailer. The clip however is useless as there is not much too it.

Drafting and planning - Teaser Trailer Clip - Couple standing

I have taken several clips in the preparation of creating my film trailer. I took different clips which I then plan on putting into a movie making software and then mixing them together to create my teaser trailer. In the above clip, it shows the couple standing with their backs to the camera with the sounds of birds in the background. The clip is four seconds long and is pretty simple. I thought that I could include this sort of clip at the beginning of my trailer possibly incorporated with some bangs and quick editing.

Drafting and Planning - First Magazine Draft

Above shows my first draft for my film magazine. I used an image I had taken which was my sister dressed up as the crazy person. I liked this image as I felt she looked scary and it would be a clear indication to the reader what the genre of my film was. I then added some general conventions of a magazine to it such as the bar-code and the masthead however that was all. This draft was pretty basic and as I develop my magazine idea I will add in a price, a tagline, a web address and a dateline to make it look more professional and realistic. Another thing I tried to incorporate into my magazine was colour. When I looked at previous editions of Empire magazine, I noticed that they often included colour such as red or yellow on their covers which works as a way of attracting the public's eye. This is why I chose to colour some of the text in bright colours to firstly make it more attractive and also to make it similar to other editions of 'Empire' Magazine. This first draft is quite basic and hopefully will change dramatically as I develop it.

Drafting and Planning - First Magazine Draft - Empire

The next masthead I looked at was 'Empire' magazine. The bold, red font stood out on the black and white image and I felt that it would work better then 'Total Film'. I also liked and preferred the idea of using 'Empire' magazine because with my film, I wanted to target a Mass audience rather then a niche one which I felt Empire related too. It also works well as I want my image to be dark/ black and white so the bright, bold red would work best.

Drafting and Planning - First Magazine Draft - Total Film

Above I looked at using the magazine name 'Total Film' as the masthead for my magazine. The masthead itself is simple as it is just white and bold. However, when I added the masthead on top of some images in paint.net, I felt that it didn't stand out on the image I had chosen. As the genre I am looking at is horror, I knew I wanted the main image to be dark, possibly black and white, so with a white masthead, I don't that they will complement each other so 'Total Film' probably wont be the option  I go for.

PagePlus Practice.

I had my first attempt at the software PagePlus today and above is the outcome of just having a quick go on the different edits and effects. The software allows you to cut backgrounds, replace them, add borders, text etc. I found the software easy enough to use, I took a simple image off Google - marriage themed - to relate to my teaser trailer idea and imported into PagePlus. I then tried many different edits in the attempt to make the image more sinister then it previously was. I then added the text 'Will it be a happy ever after?' to finish the image off.
